Specifically, all copies of Vanish encrypted data — even archived or cached copies — will become permanently unreadable at a specific time, without any action on the part of the user or any third party or centralized service."This is certainly a good way to prevent those emberassing pictures from you past from getting a job. And it could be a good prevention against social engineering as well. But I wonder what the consequences will be on computer forensics.

Over the last months, several
countries
have
already expressed their interest in cracking the Skype encryption, so
their respective law enforcement teams can 'listen in' on conversations
where criminal activities are suspected. There's good news for the
investigators: eBay, the current owner of Skype, has revealed
that due to intellectual property disputes with the original owners of
Skype, eBay might change the core of the application and remove the
proprietary peer-to-peer technology that is currently used.
